Michael K. Williams Talks About ODB
|
''The Dude Was Actually Quite Smart'' 1:30PM ET May 11th, 2012 Contributor : Martin James
Actor Michael K. Williams spoke to MTV about portraying the late Ol' Dirty Bastard in Dirty White Boy, which is currently filming. Williams, famous for his edgy roles on "The Wire" and "Boardwalk Empire," revealed how he prepped for the project.
"I am doing a lot of research on Russell," he said. "I had the pleasure of meeting his beautiful mother, Ms. Cherry. We sat down for, like, three hours, and she told me the most amazing stuff about her son and a lot of things that the public didn't know. I've been talking to people who know him well ... people who knew him when the cameras wasn't rolling. I've got a lot of insight into who he was as a human being and as a man and, dare I say it, scholar. The dude was actually quite smart. You have to be able to recite mathematics and be five percent God body — you can't play with that. You have to know what you're talking about. It's a lot of studying, a lot of knowledge."
"It's drama, but if you know ODB, there's going to be some comedy, but we're not playing to that. It's going to be shot as a straight piece, no buffoonery, for lack of a better word," Williams said. "It's only going to cover the last two years of his life when he was released from prison to the day he died. It's just an insight into what he struggled with in the public eye."

''It's Great To See Him At the Top of His Game'' 1:30PM ET May 11th, 2012 Contributor : Chris G.
Drake took a moment to praise the skyrocketing career of Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz. Drizzy says that the two have been friends for quite a while and no one has been happier with his success than Drake.
The two recently collaborated and Drake gave 2 Chainz props for building his career.
"Like I say in the song ['No Lie'], 'Me and Chainz go way back,' that's no lie," Drake said. "I spent a lot of my early days with Young Money on the road with 2 Chainz. We definitely built a rapport. It's great to see him at the top of his game right now. The world loves him and it's well deserved. He's a hardworking guy."

Lecrae Counseled No Malice
|
Rappers Connect Via Spirituality 3:30PM ET May 11th, 2012 Contributor : Chris G.
Christian rapper Lecrae revealed that fellow hip hopper No Malice reached out to him for a bit of spiritual counseling. No Malice, formerly Malice, has become a more religious person and artist and sought Lecrae's perspective on transitioning out of his old persona and lifestyle.
"Yeah, he did. I mean, from his perspective [No Malice has] been an individual who's had lofty thoughts of God," Lecrae said. "That's why every [Clipse] project - Lord Willin' - had those types of spiritual references. But he hit me up just saying like, "As of late, man, I'm really serious about this." And so [No Malice] just called me to kinda build a relationship and to talk and to just form a bond and work through some of those issues. And it's been dope."
