''I Don't Know Why They Should Have Been Stopped''

Former Atlanta Mayor Defends T.I.

Former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young has offered his take on rapper T.I.'s recent arrest in Los Angeles. Young, who presided over T.I.'s wedding to Tameka "Tiny" Cottle (who was also arrested) believes that the police had ulterior motives for pulling the rapper over in the first place. The officers reportedly smelled marijuana and discovered methamphetamines and Ecstasy in the couple's possession.

“There’s another culture in L.A. that I don’t understand,” Young told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Most people in Los Angeles would wonder why he was stopped. I don’t know why they should have been stopped ... When a black man is stopped and not speeding … you call that driving while black.”

T.I. is reportedly headed back to Atlanta and could face serious prison time if he's found guilty of violating his probation.

Kia Shine Ruins Teen's Birthday

Mother Threatens to Sue Memphis Rapper

Kia Shine Ruins Teen's Birthday

Rapper Kia Shine is accused of ruining a child's birthday party. 16-year old Latranae Allen had a huge birthday celebration planned and Shine was the centerpiece of her special day.

Latranae's mother, Victoria Allen, planned a Sweet 16 celebration for over a year. The mother paid for a limo, a new car and rapper--Kia Shine. Allen alleges the event would have been perfect if Shine had not been hours late and performed a far shorter set that agreed upon. She reportedly paid the rapper $1000 up front for the appearance and also paid $1000 for a sound system.

"I was like, that would be cool to have a local rapper from Memphis to be the spotlight and special guest at her special event," Allen said in a statement. "Everything was perfect, til it got to the Entertainment. And when I say Entertainment, I'm talking about the artist Kia Shine."

Shine was expected to perform about 9 pm when the party had about 150 teenagers celebrating Latranae's birthday. Allen said the times continuously changed until he arrived at 11:45 pm with about 15 kids in front of him. Furthermore, he reportedly performed slightly over 5 minutes.

When reach for comment, Shine simply said, "Contractually Kia Shine showed up, Kia Shine performed, Kia Shine did exactly what he was supposed to do."

Allen has said she will file suit against the rapper.

Snoop Dogg Prepping ''DoggyStyle 2''

Rapper Snoop Dogg has announced the name of his new, Swizz Beatz-produced project--DoggyStyle 2. Both Swizz and Snoop explained that they recorded a number of tracks for Snoop’s project while in the studio.

“And the album is DoggyStyle 2: The Doggumentary--be on the lookout for it, you b*tch,” said Snoop on a viral video featuring he and Swizz. "[Swizz] just laced my boots up for my new record. Motherf**ker gave me some gangsta sh*t, some crib sh*t, some R&B sh*t, some Hip Hop sh*t, hard sh*t, some mean sh*t.”

“That’s how we used to do it back in the day. It used to be about the sound so right now we constructing sounds for the album,” Swizz added.

DoggyStyle 2 would follow in the current trend of rappers releasing 'sequels' to classic albums. Both Jay-Z and Raekwon released sequel albums last year, Blueprint 3 and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...Pt. II, respectively.

Shawty Lo's Ex-Fiancee Arrested

Another rapper-related controversy.

It's looking like a bad week for Bankhead rappers. Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo's baby's mother, (formerly his fiancée), Ecreia Perez, was arrested after being found with a semi-automatic handgun and stungun at Atlanta's Fulton County Courthouse's security checkpoint.

She was there to get her shoplifting charges dismissed but she clearly must have had other intentions although those are not yet (thankfully) clear to the public.

Perez told police that she simply forgot the items were in her purse.

Perez’s bail was set at $6,000 and she was released yesterday. She and Shawty Lo announced their engagement in June. But Shawty, real name Carlos Walker, broke off the engagement to his girlfriend of 10 years after he caught Perez allegedly cheating on him.

Nicki Minaj Feeling Pressure

''I Was Afraid To Be A Solo Female Rapper''

Nicki Minaj Feeling Pressure

Nicki Minaj is positioning herself as the torch-bearer for female MCs everywhere. With so few femcees making any major noise in the Hip Hop industry, Minaj feels that her debut album's success will mean more than just a hit for the self-proclaimed 'Barbie,' it will be a victory for female rappers as a whole. She even admits that her own label will probably be hesitant if Pink Friday flops.

"[Young Money] won't look to sign other female rappers if the project doesn't do well, because they're going to say, 'Well, her buzz was so crazy, and if she couldn't do it, then no one can do it,' and I don't want that to happen. So I'm doing this as well for all the girls...I hope it will open doors for all girls everywhere who ever wanted to pick up a mic and rap and who have been kind of afraid to do it."

"For a long time in my life, I was afraid to be a solo female rapper, because everyone told me, 'It doesn't work. It's not going to happen. Record companies are never going to invest in you just to get it. Just be part of a group.' ... Even as far as I've come now is already a testament in my mind, so I hope the female rappers understand how big it is for our culture that the album does well."

T.I.'s Arrest: The Potential Fallout

Rapper Could Face Prison For Violating His Probation
6:00PM ET September 2nd, 2010

T.I.'s Arrest: The Potential Fallout

How quickly things have changed for the King of the South.

The fallout from rapper T.I.'s arrest in Los Angeles could be swift and severe. The Grammy-winner is to return to Atlanta and may be ordered to face the same federal judge who signed off on an extraordinary deal that shaved years off his potential prison term after T.I. was found guilty of felony weapons possession charges in 2008.

T.I. and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Harris, were arrested Wednesday night in Los Angeles for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine. The arrest could set in a motion a series of events that could be disastrous for the rapper-turned-actor who's new action film, Takers was #1 at the box office this past weekend. It could lead to a motion by his probation officer, with the officer asking U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. to revoke some of the remaining probation on T.I.'s federal sentence stemming from the gun charges three years ago. T.I's probation expires in 2013.

"T.I. is going to be back on his way to Atlanta in the next 24 hours," Don Samuel, one of T.I.'s lawyers, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday. "It's almost certain he'll end up appearing before the court here. But without knowing all the facts, it's premature to speculate what the court is likely to do."

T.I.'s plea deal was the first of its kind. Before going to prison, the rapper was required to perform 1,000 hours of community service telling kids and fans across the country not to emulate his old lifestyle of drugs and violence. The deal was endorsed by former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young. Pannell seemed please with how things had gone, but he warned the rapper, born Clifford Harris, Jr., that if he had failed during his time out on community service, "I would have simply sent you to prison."

It remains to be seen if Pannell will do just that following the events of Wednesday night.
